Pink Peonies for a June Wedding at the DC War Memorial

Kelly and Aaron's June wedding was an intimate family affair at the DC War Memorial. Kelly's bridal bouquet featured blush pink and white peonies, white roses, pink spray roses, blush lisianthus and sweet peas with eucalyptus accents. Her sister and Maid-of-Honor carried a similar yet smaller bouquet. The groom's boutonniere was a single pink peony and his daughter carried a tiny bouquet to match the bride. The star of the show (other than the bride, of course!) was Gatsby, the dog, with his floral collar!

We adorned the steps of the War Memorial with six low arrangements of peonies, roses and eucalyptus in wood boxes. These arrangements were then re-purposed at the Hay Adams as their luncheon centerpieces.

"My flowers were gorgeous! Jolie was delightful to work with--organized, responsive, and full of great ideas. I felt that her vision was creative and flexible."

Citrus Summer Wedding at Woodend Sanctuary and Mansion in MD

Mackenzie and Pete's June wedding was full of some of my favorite things: seasonal summer flowers, bright citrus-y colors and lots of greenery! Mackenzie's bridal bouquet featured bright coral charm peonies, orange and hot pink ranunculus, Free Spirit roses, yellow tulips, magenta stock and veronica and bupleurum. Her bridesmaid carried a similar yet smaller bouquet. The groom's boutonniere was designed with a mix of ranunculus and roses. The adorable flower girl wore a floral crown of matching blooms.

Their ceremony was held at St. Peter's in Capitol Hill which is a grand and gorgeous church so we kept the floral decor to a minimum by adding foliage garlands trailing between the first few pews and a pops of color with a few blooms on the other pews. These flowers and greenery were later used at the reception to accent the mantel, stairway, cake table and escort card table.

The reception was held at Woodend Sanctuary with dinner on the covered terrace and dancing inside the mansion. The guests were greeted by and garland covered "Welcome" sign and a long Escort Card table adorned with garland, white lanterns, candles and small apothecary bottles with colorful flowers. The centerpieces for the dinner tables were two designs: half of the tables held wood boxes with mixed summer flowers and the other half held white lanterns with three small vases of flowers.

It was refreshing to work with a couple who embraced color and wasn't afraid to use it in their wedding!

Mackenzie said... "I highly recommend Jolie at Uncloudy Studio. The flower arrangements and my bridal bouquet were some of the most stunning I have ever seen. All of my guests made comments about the flowers and how beautiful they were. They exceeded my expectations! "

M+M's Blush and Blue Summer Peony Wedding at Decatur House DC

The historic Decatur House in Washington DC was the perfect venue for Michelle and Michael's romantic June wedding. The ceremony was held in the outdoor courtyard surrounded by the landscaped gardens in bloom. The color story was dusty blue, blush pink, creamy white and soft grey with lots of lush textural flowers. Michelle's bouquet was an abundant mix of peonies, garden roses, hydrangea, spray roses, lisianthus, delphinium, ranunculus and dusty miller. Her eight bridesmaids wore blush metallic gowns and carried open pale pink peonies surrounded by dusty miller and tied with metallic gold ribbon. Michael wore a blush pink garden rose with a touch of hydrangea, delphinium and dusty miller. The groomsmen wore a single garden rose. The couple exchanged vows on the brick courtyard framed to two arrangements in sandstone urns. Cocktail hour was held indoors with tiny arrangements and candles accenting the cocktail tables. Guests dined in the courtyard at round tables covered in white linens with silver chargers and accents and low centerpieces in glass bowls and footed compotes filled with lush romantic blooms to match the bride's bouquet.

I loved working with this couple and the amazing group of vendors! Check out the lovely review from the bride and the vendor list below:

Emily + Ryan's Gold, Plum and Berry Fall Wedding at the Tabard Inn in DC

This wedding gave me all the feels with lots of seasonal flowers, rich colors, textural foliage, candlelight and gold pumpkins all in an intimate setting!

Emily and Ryan's wedding was at the Tabard Inn in Washington, DC on a gorgeous November day. The bridal bouquet was a loose, organic design featuring berry pink garden roses, anemones, purple clematis, eggplant calla lilies, white ranunculus, hydrangea and privet berries along with seeded and willow eucalyptus. Her bridesmaid carried a similar but smaller bouquet and Ryan wore a boutonniere of purple hydrangea and a single anemone. The ceremony was held upstairs in the Tabard Inn's intimate, Victorian dining room complete with gorgeous fireplaces and tons of candlelight. The couple was married in front of one of the fireplaces which was accented with a long and low arrangement of antique hydrangea, garden roses, snapdragons, lisianthus, privet berries and eucalyptus in a gold bowl with lots of gold mercury glass candles. Adorning both sides of the fireplace were two tall arrangements of curly willow, callicarpa, antique hydrangea and snapdragons. The windowsills were all accented with mixed eucalyptus garlands and votive candles. The centerpieces for the reception were designed in gold pumpkins with kale, purple stock, white roses and lots of berries and foliage along with gold votive candles.

This was a gorgeous fall wedding in a unique and warm venue with the sweetest couple. Check out the 5 star review the bride sent me the morning after their wedding:

"It's the day after my wedding and I'm posting a review - that's how thrilled and overjoyed I was with my flowers! Jolie was a true pleasure to work with, and I had complete confidence that if everything else went wrong, the flowers would be gorgeous. I had no idea that they would be spectacular! My jaw dropped when I saw my bouquet and again when I saw the finished rooms. You will be lucky to have such a warm and talented professional transform your vision into reality. Thank you, Jolie, from the bottom of my heart." - Emily Conrad

Jen + Steve's Halloween Wedding at the Carnegie Institute for Science in DC

I love a good fall wedding but this one was special because it was on Halloween weekend but didn't include any pumpkins, leaves or decorative gourds! Instead, Jen and Steve's wedding had a moody yet romantic tone but gave a nod to the season by incorporating black feathers in the bouquets and silver vampire teeth as place card holders!

Both the ceremony and reception were held at the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, DC. The bride wore a modern and glamorous gown complete with feathers and a fur stole so we carried that feel into her bridal bouquet. Her bouquet was a sexy design of only dark eggplant (black) calla lilies accented with black ostrich feathers. Her bridesmaid wore black and white and carried a bouquet of white and mini green hydrangea accented with eggplant callas and feathers. The men wore single mini calla boutonnieres.

The low centerpieces for the reception were clean and light with lots of fluffy white and green hydrangea and dark accents of rich eggplant mini callas. The sweetheart table was accented with the bridal bouquet, candles and a garland of eucalyptus. The cake topper was designed and created by the bride's father and we added touches of seeded eucalyptus around the base.

A simple yet stunning wedding with some of my favorite vendors! Enjoy the gorgeous photos from the talented Shandi Walllace!

Modern Pink and White Wedding at The Ritz Carlton in Georgetown

As we come to the end of the summer peony season, I wanted to revisit this beautiful wedding from last November which featured plenty of peonies!

Meredith and Tom's wedding was a sleek, modern and intimate affair at the Ritz Carlton in Georgetown. The color story was white and all shades of pink featuring peonies, anemones, mini calla lilies, orchids, hydrangea, lisianthus, ranunculus, tulips and roses. The bridal bouquet was designed with an ombré effect and finished with a large bow to match the bow on Meredith's gown. The bride's sister carried a smaller bouquet of mostly pink blooms. Candlelight decorated the ceremony space while high and low centerpieces were the focal point of the dinner tables.

I worked closely with the bride and her Mom and loved every minute of it!

Chris and Stephanie's Spring Virginia Vineyard Wedding

I met Stephanie after designing the flowers for her friend, Brittany's, wedding last fall. (Brittany and Dan's wedding can be found here, here and here.) Stephanie described her vision for her wedding flowers as "It's a spring outdoor wedding and I'd like the flowers to look fresh and a little wild". Done and done! Her color story was neutral cream and robin's egg blue with accents of metallic gold. For her flowers we choose pastel shades of blue, lavender, pink and white. Other than making sure the flowers were seasonal, a little bit wild and pastel, I had free reign with the flower choices and design. Stephanie was such a dream to work with that I wish we could repeat her wedding every spring!

Stephanie and Chris' May wedding was held at the absolutely stunning Bluemont Vineyard, if you haven't visited I suggest to put it on your to-do list! (The little town is charming so plan to stop by The Bluemont Store to step back in time before heading to the vineyard) The Jewish ceremony was held outside under a chuppah constructed by Uncloudy Studio made of birch logs and lightly draped with fresh foliage garland and curly willow with the bases accented by potted hydrangea plants. They were married along a stone wall with a gorgeous view of the vineyard and Loudoun Valley behind them. The chairs at the ceremony were accented with gold mason jars brimming with a seasonal mix of wildflowers. These jars were then re-purposed on the dinner tables. The bride carried a lush bouquet of blue hydrangea and delphinium, purple lilacs and veronica, lavender roses and sweet peas, white tulips and pale pink ranunculus. The six bridesmaids carried smaller versions of the bridal bouquet and the men wore boutonnieres of lavender roses. The reception was held inside a to-die-for barn and the tables were decorated with a mix of wildflower mason jars and bud vases to compliment the lanterns and candles provided by Elegant Momentz by Kathleen. Elegant Momentz also served as the wedding planner and stylist for all things non-floral and Kathleen and her staff did an amazing job on the details! It was a beautiful day at an amazing venue with a rockstar group of vendors!

Here's a little note from the bride: "Jolie Joswick did the most amazing job on my flowers," Stephanie said. "I loved them more than any other flowers I have ever seen."

Colorful Autumn Wedding in DC with Flowers, Fruits and Veggies!

As I gear up for the fabulous frenzy of fall weddings, I'm looking back at some of my past favorites. This week I'm taking a stroll down memory lane with Melissa and Mike and their gorgeous October indoor/outdoor wedding at 2941 Restaurant in Falls Church.

The ceremony was held outside on the beautiful terrace under a handmade chuppah of birch and curly willow accented with fresh bittersweet vines. The bride and groom wanted a "farmer's market" flower feel with all seasonal flowers in vibrant colors to pop against the black bridesmaid's dresses and touch of purple was added to match their purple shoes! The bride and her bridesmaids all carried hand-tied bouquets with sunflowers, orange roses, dahlias, celosia and zinnias with a touch of statice and ageratum. The men all wore slightly different boutonnieres and instead of corsages, the Mother's carried single sunflowers wrapped in eggplant ribbon.

The indoor reception carried over the same color palette and flower choices but also incorporated fresh fruits and vegetables and a "Moroccan" feel with lanterns, candles and framed table numbers. The centerpieces were each unique and included pomegranates, artichokes, protea, oranges and bittersweet.

The bride and groom were an absolute joy to work with and their floral vision allowed me to create a beautiful seasonal wedding that I still love to share!

Enjoy the photos from me and Evan Rowland Photography.
