Chris + Caitlyn's Industrial Chic Wildflower Wedding at Studio Theatre DC

Chris and Caitlyn were SO fun to work with and had so many amazing ideas and were so open to my ideas and so involved in the design... Am I gushing? Anyway...

The wedding took place in April at Studio Theatre in Washington, DC. Because the venue is a theatre the space is raw and industrial and a bit of a blank space which is exactly what this couple wanted. The theme was colorful and eclectic, modern yet bohemian, industrial and chic. Caitlyn's bridal bouquet was a wild, organic, free-form design with seasonal colorful blooms featuring coral charm peonies, grape hyacinth, tulips, ranunculus, garden roses, thistle, billy balls, succulents, eucalyptus and fern. Her bridesmaids wore shades of grey, nude and blush and carried wildflower bouquets of heather, veronica, chamomile, stock and thistle. The groom's boutonniere was designed with a mix of herbs and ranunculus while the rest of the men wore simple sprigs of herbs and greenery.

The ceremony was held in the atrium of Studio Theatre against a brick wall which we accented with an asymmetrical hanging garland of mixed foliage and bright pops of flowers. The aisle was lined with metal flower buckets, some filled with potted lavender and others filled with greenery, chamomile and poppy pods.

The guest tables for the reception were a mix of long rustic tables, low round tables and high top tables. The long tables had a greenery runner with a tall metal bucket in the center which held the bridesmaid's bouquets plus two copper buckets of mixed wildflowers. The round tables had a mix of concrete pots (made by the couple!) and corrugated tin cans each with a large peony or protea and greenery or succulents. Every table was filled with mixed metal votive candles.

It gets better! Not only was this wedding super fun to design but the rockstar bride also gave me a stellar review:

"Three weeks after our wedding, I am still beaming from the amazing flowers that Jolie created for us. Jolie was definitely one of my favorite vendors that we worked with. From the first meeting where she brought me a sample bouquet and my original ideas were NOTHING that I actually settled on, Jolie was completely warm, welcoming and professional. I booked her very shortly after our first meeting. As our conversations and Pinterest boards continued, I got more and more focused and bold with my decisions. Her suggestion that our wedding could be "industrial chic" completely shifted my focus from traditional white flowers to what I really wanted - bold greenery, pops of color, crazy wildflowers and a stunning garland backdrop for our ceremony. Jolie wasn't only completely on board with these ideas, but was EXCITED. It was so inspiring to me and my husband that her enthusiasm for her work shined through, and it really allowed us to feel comfortable with our decisions. I literally cried when Jolie dropped off my stunning bouquet, it was THAT beautiful (and continues to be as it hangs drying in a closet for us to enjoy in years to come!). Our pictures turned out beautifully, partially in thanks to our amazing photographers, but also due to Jolie's attention to detail and perfect execution of our vision. Book Jolie immediately! I plan to for any future floral needs, personal or professional. "

Karin + Frank's Spring Tulip and Peony Wedding at City Club, Washington DC

Karin and Frank's spring wedding was at the City Club in downtown Washington, DC. Karin was in love with all spring flowers especially tulips, hyacinth and lilacs which we were able to easily incorporate into her wedding since the couple chose April to get married! The bridal bouquet was a lush and fragrant mix of seasonal spring blooms featuring white peonies, tulips and lilacs with pops of coral ranunculus and pink garden roses. Her bridesmaids wore shades of blush and coral and carried simple, but gorgeous, bouquets of white double tulips and calcynia for a delicate touch of pink. The groom's boutonniere was designed with a white tulip and coral ranunculus and a touch of eucalyptus while the rest of the men wore a single white rununculus.

The ceremony was held in the atrium of the City Club in downtown Washington DC by the indoor fountain at the bottom of a grand staircase. The couple was married under a chuppah draped in sheer white fabric and adorned with peonies, orchids, roses and tulips with candles and rose petals around the bases.

The centerpieces for the reception featured two different looks. Half of the tables had three varying height votive candle holders along with three cylinder vases of blush tulips. The other half of the tables had three low varying height vases each with one variety of flower: white hydrangea, pink hyacinth and blush tulips plus pillar candles in glass. The look was soft and romantic and full of candlelight.

Check out the 5 star review from the bride:

"Jolie was a wonderful person to work with leading up to and on my wedding day. She even advocated for my vision, the vision we talked about when well intentioned friends would take over decision making. She's responsive, thoughtful, and easy to work with no matter the budget. Jolie was a recommendation from a friend and I am so beyond thrilled with the results."

Family time and Flowering trees at the National Arboretum

After breakfast this past Sunday we stopped by the National Arboretum. We hadn't planned on it but we were in the neighborhood and the sky was so blue and the sun was shining and why not? I'm ashamed to admit that sometimes I forget about the Arboretum which I'm promising to never do again. It is a true treasure in the city and if you haven't been there yet or lately please do yourself a favor and GO! Right now the magnolia trees, forsythia and other flowering trees are in full bloom. The spring bulbs like daffodils, crocus and hyacinth add bright colors throughout the park. And in the Asian Collection the camellias are starting to show color and the hellebores are hanging their beautiful heads above the ground. I could've stayed all day but it was naptime for the kiddo... Until the next time please enjoy a few photos from our fun family outing!

Little Borrowed Dress Trunk Show in Dupont Circle

Last weekend I had the pleasure of working with Bridal Bellhop, Little Borrowed Dress and Emily Clack Photography at Shohba in Dupont Circle. Little Borrowed Dress supplied a gorgeous selection of bridesmaids dress that the ladies can rent rather than purchase and we had a steady stream of gals trying on dresses, modeling floral crowns and showing off bouquets all day long. Emily Clack took creative and candid photos of the lovely ladies and the entire event (including all the photos you see here) and Gateau provided delicious macaroons. I brought a selection for bouquets, boutonnieres and floral crowns in classic white, perfect pink and peach and the color of the year. The white bouquet included tulips, ranunculus, anemone, spray roses and umbrella fern. The pinky/peach bouquet included frill tulips, garden roses, viburnum, dusty miller, brunia and naked seeded eucalyptus and was wrapped in burlap. The "radiant orchid" bouquet displayed dendrobium orchids, hyacinth, hellebores, succulents, scabiosa pods, and brunia. It was a blast watching everyone accent their dresses with crowns and flowers!

A special thanks to the ladies of Bridal Bellhop for organizing the event!

fragrant spring wedding

I had so much fun choosing the photos for my website mostly because I got to take a trip down memory lane with each one. I keep finding new photos and remembering past clients so over the next few months I'm going to share some of my favorites with you.

In April of 2012 I had the pleasure of working with the lovely Susannah Dyer for her wedding at St. Peter's on Capitol Hill and Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill. She was a pleasure to work with because she had ideas of what she wanted her flowers to look like and smell like :) but mainly because she trusted my vision and let me run with it.

Red roses were the highlight of the bridal party flowers with a hint of genestra to add fragrance. The reception was a sweet palette of red roses, pink tulips and pink peonies, purple hyacinth and purple hydrangea along with genestra and cherry blossoms and fragrance, fragrance, fragrance!

Enjoy the photos by the talented Heather Elizabeth Photography!
