Chris + Caitlyn's Industrial Chic Wildflower Wedding at Studio Theatre DC

Chris and Caitlyn were SO fun to work with and had so many amazing ideas and were so open to my ideas and so involved in the design... Am I gushing? Anyway...

The wedding took place in April at Studio Theatre in Washington, DC. Because the venue is a theatre the space is raw and industrial and a bit of a blank space which is exactly what this couple wanted. The theme was colorful and eclectic, modern yet bohemian, industrial and chic. Caitlyn's bridal bouquet was a wild, organic, free-form design with seasonal colorful blooms featuring coral charm peonies, grape hyacinth, tulips, ranunculus, garden roses, thistle, billy balls, succulents, eucalyptus and fern. Her bridesmaids wore shades of grey, nude and blush and carried wildflower bouquets of heather, veronica, chamomile, stock and thistle. The groom's boutonniere was designed with a mix of herbs and ranunculus while the rest of the men wore simple sprigs of herbs and greenery.

The ceremony was held in the atrium of Studio Theatre against a brick wall which we accented with an asymmetrical hanging garland of mixed foliage and bright pops of flowers. The aisle was lined with metal flower buckets, some filled with potted lavender and others filled with greenery, chamomile and poppy pods.

The guest tables for the reception were a mix of long rustic tables, low round tables and high top tables. The long tables had a greenery runner with a tall metal bucket in the center which held the bridesmaid's bouquets plus two copper buckets of mixed wildflowers. The round tables had a mix of concrete pots (made by the couple!) and corrugated tin cans each with a large peony or protea and greenery or succulents. Every table was filled with mixed metal votive candles.

It gets better! Not only was this wedding super fun to design but the rockstar bride also gave me a stellar review:

Caitlyn said...
"Three weeks after our wedding, I am still beaming from the amazing flowers that Jolie created for us. Jolie was definitely one of my favorite vendors that we worked with. From the first meeting where she brought me a sample bouquet and my original ideas were NOTHING that I actually settled on, Jolie was completely warm, welcoming and professional. I booked her very shortly after our first meeting. As our conversations and Pinterest boards continued, I got more and more focused and bold with my decisions. Her suggestion that our wedding could be "industrial chic" completely shifted my focus from traditional white flowers to what I really wanted - bold greenery, pops of color, crazy wildflowers and a stunning garland backdrop for our ceremony. Jolie wasn't only completely on board with these ideas, but was EXCITED. It was so inspiring to me and my husband that her enthusiasm for her work shined through, and it really allowed us to feel comfortable with our decisions. I literally cried when Jolie dropped off my stunning bouquet, it was THAT beautiful (and continues to be as it hangs drying in a closet for us to enjoy in years to come!). Our pictures turned out beautifully, partially in thanks to our amazing photographers, but also due to Jolie's attention to detail and perfect execution of our vision. Book Jolie immediately! I plan to for any future floral needs, personal or professional. "

Sarah + Andy's September Wedding at The Anderson House, Washington DC

Everything about this September wedding was lovely; the bride, the venue, the color palette and the day!

Sarah and Andy's late summer/early fall wedding took place at the Anderson House in Washington DC which is a gorgeous venue. The color story was berry tones: fuchsia, plum, deep pink, blush and ivory with accents of gold. Sarah's bridal bouquet was a soft and loose romantic mix of hydrangea, garden roses, ranunculus, dahlias, scabiosa and succulents with green privet berries and hanging pepperberries for texture. The bridesmaids wore dove grey dresses and carried smaller versions of the bridal bouquet. Andy's boutonniere was designed with a single succulent and berry accents. The rest of the boutonnieres were all slightly different but complimented each other. Sarah and Andy's ceremony was held outside in the Hoyt Garden which features a pool, statue and stone columns. The varying height columns were the backdrop for the ceremony and each held a lush arrangement in gold pedestal bowls. The pool's corners were accented with gold lanterns, votive candles, foliage garland and loose blooms.

Cocktail hour was held indoors in The Olmsted Gallery with tiny arrangements in gold vases on the cocktail tables and place cards nestled in beds of moss on gold wooden trays. The reception was in The Ballroom with tables draped in ivory linens and accented with lush seasonal centerpieces of antique hydrangea, dahlias, ranunculus, roses, berries and foliage in matte gold vases and footed bowls.

Alison + Joel's Winter Wonderland White Wedding in Historic Annapolis MD

On one of the snowiest days we had this past winter two of the sweetest people got married and it was magical!

Alison and Joel were married at the United States Naval Academy Chapel and celebrated at Governor Calvert House both in historic Annapolis, MD on February 21, 2015. The weather added a winter wonderland effect to the photos and was the perfect accent to their color palette of winter white, slate grey and dusty lavender. The gorgeous bride, Alison (I could gush all day about how sweet and kind and lovely she is! Serously.) carried a bridal bouquet of fluffy white hydrangea, romantic peonies, ruffly white ranunculus, delicate white spray roses and antique lavender roses. A variety of succulents were added to give this romantic and vintage-looking bouquet a modern touch while seeded eucalyptus, brunia and dusty miller gave the bouquet a hint of grey and a pop of texture. The bridesmaids (all 8 of them!) wore long slate grey dresses with matching fur stoles and carried miniature versions of the bridal bouquet sans the succulents. This was a military wedding so only a few of the men wore boutonnieres which were designed with a single tiny succulent, dusty miller, seeded eucalyptus and a ranunculus bloom wrapped in slate ribbon.

Dinner for the reception at Governor Calvert House was held in a transformed ballroom with white draped walls and romantic chandeliers overhead two extra long tables for the guests. Each table had a runner of seeded and willow eucalyptus garland with long, low and lush centerpieces of all white flowers including hydrangea, roses, peonies and wax flower accented with dusty miller and brunia.

Enjoy the photos from the bride's very talented friends, Kat Herrera and Rylan Tuohy along with a few from yours truly!

Blush and Succulents for an October Wedding in Virginia

In early October, I had the pleasure of designing the flowers for Laura and Ryan's wedding in Virginia. Laura is sweet and creative and a dream to work with and we captured her style with romantic flowers and a soft color palette. We styled the flowers around a navy, blush, white and green color story with fluffy high-petal count flowers, on-trend succulents and textural foliage. The flowers used to create this look included: white hydrangea, peach garden roses, pale lavender dahlias, pink astilbe, blush mini calla lilies, echeveria and seeded eucalyptus. Enjoy!

Succulents and Scotch! Event Flowers for a Tasting in DC

Last Tuesday I had the pleasure of working with Jack Rose Dining Saloon and a marketing group out of Chicago to provide flowers for an intimate scotch tasting event. The event was held in the cozy balcony room of Jack Rose which features a stone fireplace along one wall and a bar along the facing wall with floor-to-ceiling windows and balcony space. The theme for the flowers was green and white with touches of burgundy and rich earthy textures. Some of the flowers used were succulents, kale, artichokes, hydrangea, kangaroo paw and scabiosa pods. The bar arrangements were designed in tall glass cylinders wrapped with dark ti leaves and the tables featured long and low arrangements in wood boxes and tiny burlap wrapped votive cups holding a single echeveria.

Enjoy the photos from Kyle Gustafson and be sure to check out Jack Rose Dining Saloon for drinks, dinner or to host your next event!

Cheers!

Little Borrowed Dress Trunk Show in Dupont Circle

Last weekend I had the pleasure of working with Bridal Bellhop, Little Borrowed Dress and Emily Clack Photography at Shohba in Dupont Circle. Little Borrowed Dress supplied a gorgeous selection of bridesmaids dress that the ladies can rent rather than purchase and we had a steady stream of gals trying on dresses, modeling floral crowns and showing off bouquets all day long. Emily Clack took creative and candid photos of the lovely ladies and the entire event (including all the photos you see here) and Gateau provided delicious macaroons. I brought a selection for bouquets, boutonnieres and floral crowns in classic white, perfect pink and peach and the color of the year. The white bouquet included tulips, ranunculus, anemone, spray roses and umbrella fern. The pinky/peach bouquet included frill tulips, garden roses, viburnum, dusty miller, brunia and naked seeded eucalyptus and was wrapped in burlap. The "radiant orchid" bouquet displayed dendrobium orchids, hyacinth, hellebores, succulents, scabiosa pods, and brunia. It was a blast watching everyone accent their dresses with crowns and flowers!

A special thanks to the ladies of Bridal Bellhop for organizing the event!
