Pink Peonies for a June Wedding at the DC War Memorial

Kelly and Aaron's June wedding was an intimate family affair at the DC War Memorial. Kelly's bridal bouquet featured blush pink and white peonies, white roses, pink spray roses, blush lisianthus and sweet peas with eucalyptus accents. Her sister and Maid-of-Honor carried a similar yet smaller bouquet. The groom's boutonniere was a single pink peony and his daughter carried a tiny bouquet to match the bride. The star of the show (other than the bride, of course!) was Gatsby, the dog, with his floral collar!

We adorned the steps of the War Memorial with six low arrangements of peonies, roses and eucalyptus in wood boxes. These arrangements were then re-purposed at the Hay Adams as their luncheon centerpieces.

"My flowers were gorgeous! Jolie was delightful to work with--organized, responsive, and full of great ideas. I felt that her vision was creative and flexible."

Modern Pink and White Wedding at The Ritz Carlton in Georgetown

As we come to the end of the summer peony season, I wanted to revisit this beautiful wedding from last November which featured plenty of peonies!

Meredith and Tom's wedding was a sleek, modern and intimate affair at the Ritz Carlton in Georgetown. The color story was white and all shades of pink featuring peonies, anemones, mini calla lilies, orchids, hydrangea, lisianthus, ranunculus, tulips and roses. The bridal bouquet was designed with an ombré effect and finished with a large bow to match the bow on Meredith's gown. The bride's sister carried a smaller bouquet of mostly pink blooms. Candlelight decorated the ceremony space while high and low centerpieces were the focal point of the dinner tables.

I worked closely with the bride and her Mom and loved every minute of it!

Carly + Nick's White + Blue Wedding at the Hotel Monaco in DC

Sometimes you meet clients and you feel like you've known them forever. The day I met Carly and her parents I could've chatted with them all afternoon! They are warm and sweet and this wedding was definitely a family affair. From the very beginning they knew they wanted all white flowers with a classy yet natural feel. They also brought one vintage blue glass vase that belonged to the bride's grandmother which was the inspiration for the rest of the color story. We met a year prior to the wedding so the plan was for the bride and her family and a few friends to go "blue glass hunting" for all the vases for the reception. How fun! And in the end they collected almost 100 pieces (!) which we used to create individual tablescapes for 18 guest tables plus the cupcake table and the bridesmaid's bouquets.

Carly's bridal bouquet was a lush and romantic mix of all white peonies, open roses, ranunculus, lisianthus and hydrangea with pops of blue thistle and seeded eucalyptus accents. The bride and the maid-of-honor's bouquets were wrapped in vintage handkerchiefs that belonged the bride's grandmother. The bridesmaids wore jeweled navy gowns and carried bouquets of white hydrangea, blue thistle and seeded eucalyptus. Nick's boutonniere was designed with white lisianthus and ranunculus and a touch of thistle and eucalyptus. The rest of the guys wore white hydrangea and thistle. Nick and Carly's ceremony was held under the dome in the Paris Ballroom at the Hotel Monaco under a birch chuppah constructed by Uncloudy Studio. Each birch pole was anchored in an urn filled with curly willow and white flowers (hydrangea, dahlias, roses, larkspur, lisianthus, queen anne's lace, thistle and seeded eucalyptus).

The reception tables were draped in white linen with candles and silver framed table numbers plus one large blue glass vase along with 3 smaller vases. Every vase was different as were the flower arrangements in the vases. We used a wide variety of white flowers including: orchids, hydrangea, ranunculus, roses, dahlias, peonies, spray roses and lisianthus. The effect was unique and elegant and created visual interest throughout the space. The cupcake/escort card table at the entry displayed the tiniest of blue vases with single blooms and the 3 tiered cake was accented with a floral topper and small tucks of flowers on each tier.

This was one of my favorite weddings of the year working with an awesome family and a rockstar team of vendors!

Check of the glowing reviews from the bride and her Mom:

Carly said... "I am hard to please and Jolie met and FAR exceeded my expectations. She had provided flowers for a friend of mine who raved about her so I decided to give it a go. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted and am not a very artistic person. I found examples of things I liked on pinterest and Jolie worked with me to create the perfect floral plan for my wedding. She was extremely professional in responding to emails, her billing system was easy, and I totally knew what to expect price wise. Jolie went above and beyond by working with my other vendors to make sure everything would tie perfectly to the other details of my wedding. Beyond all this, Jolie is extremely gifted at what she does. I didn't even know I liked flowers until I saw the flowers she designed for my wedding. When I first saw them they were even prettier than I could have imagined. The photographer had to force me to put down my bouquet because I didn't want to let them go. Jolie is extremely reliable, professional, and provides exactly what you want at very reasonable prices for the DC area."

Lisa said... "Jolie was a pleasure to work with and the end result far exceeded our expectations. She gladly designed the centerpieces around a collection of 90 depression blue glass vases and they were amazing! The bouquets were equally as lovely. She is creative, flexible, fun and respected our budget. Everyone at the wedding thought the flowers were the prettiest they have seen. She is wonderful! ."

Brittany and Daniel's Fall Wedding at Carnegie Institute for Science in Washington DC

I had one open weekend last November with no weddings or events scheduled and I was kind of looking forward to a little breather after having such a full plate all fall. Then I received an email from Brittany and I'm so glad I did! Brittany and Daniel were planning their DC wedding from the Midwest and she had planned to DIY the flowers until the last minute when she contacted me. We chatted via FaceTime and less than 3 weeks later we met in person on her wedding day. Her vision for the flowers was romantic and a little wild, elegant but unkempt. The palette was plum and gold. The final look was amazing especially with the gorgeous venue, the attention to detail from their planner and the photos are to die for!

Here's a little info on the flowers: We used lots of texture (which I love)! The colors were white, dusty antique lavender, plum, and purple with silvery grey foliage and accents of gold. We used white peonies, white anemones and white lisianthus, muted lavender "Halloween" roses and astrantia, dark plum ranunculus and scabiosa. For the foliage we used dusty miller and seeded and willow eucalyptus. The bridal bouquet was the star of the show and the bridesmaids carried much smaller versions that really popped against their plum dresses. Each boutonniere featured a different flower from the bridal bouquet adding a touch of whimsy. And the centerpieces were low and lush arrangements in matte gold glass. The king's table with adorned with a garland of gorgeous foliage and purple berries and accented with taper candles and all the bridesmaid's bouquets. It was such a dreamy wedding and an unforgettable whirlwind floral experience! I'm crossing my fingers for more events like this in 2015 :) Enjoy the pictures by Shandi Wallace...

Succulents and Scotch! Event Flowers for a Tasting in DC

Last Tuesday I had the pleasure of working with Jack Rose Dining Saloon and a marketing group out of Chicago to provide flowers for an intimate scotch tasting event. The event was held in the cozy balcony room of Jack Rose which features a stone fireplace along one wall and a bar along the facing wall with floor-to-ceiling windows and balcony space. The theme for the flowers was green and white with touches of burgundy and rich earthy textures. Some of the flowers used were succulents, kale, artichokes, hydrangea, kangaroo paw and scabiosa pods. The bar arrangements were designed in tall glass cylinders wrapped with dark ti leaves and the tables featured long and low arrangements in wood boxes and tiny burlap wrapped votive cups holding a single echeveria.

Enjoy the photos from Kyle Gustafson and be sure to check out Jack Rose Dining Saloon for drinks, dinner or to host your next event!

Cheers!
